Dr. Kaitlyn Hemsley
Dr. Kaitlyn Hemsley grew up in Chesterfield, Virginia. She graduated from vet school from Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013 and has worked in both emergency medicine and general practice. Over the past 2 years, Dr. Hemsley has broadened her knowledge to incorporate both Eastern & Western medicine. She earned her certification in Veterinary Acupuncture at The Chi Institute of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM).
In her free time, Dr. Hemsley enjoys hiking, gardening, spending time with family and relaxing with her dog, Ava and cat, Laird.
Ava was adopted after when she was about 10 months old. She had lost the use of her left arm after being struck by a car. In need of surgery and a forever home, Dr. Hemsley adopted Ava. Since then, Ava’s been hopping around spreading smiles and giving kisses. She’s the ultimate morale booster! Ava was the inspiration for Dr. Hemsley to learn more about Acupuncture & Integrative therapies.
Just like all pets, it’s very important that she stays fit and healthy with daily exercise & routine examinations. In her free time, Ava enjoys chasing frisbees and squirrels.

Laird is gifted with an outgoing personality & close attention to detail. Laird thoroughly inspects all inventory & supplies, available on the online pharmacy. His spunk and charm make him the perfect guy to manage the monthly newsletter & online appointment scheduling and forms.
As you can imagine, Laird stays very busy, even in his free time he makes it a priority to lounge across all paperwork. In his free time, Laird enjoys chasing Ava & snoozing in his window seat.

House Call appointments provide a low stress environment for both you and your pet. The trip to and from the vet clinic can be particularly distressing for sick and older pets. Limiting travel related stresses, such as confinement, motion sickness & sudden changes in the environment, can improve your pet’s overall wellbeing and health. For clients, having your pet’s veterinarian come to the house can help with busy schedules and improves pet-parent relationships by limiting un-necessary stressors involved with transporting your pet to-and-from the vet. Furthermore, it enables the veterinarian to better assess the patient’s environment and betters their overall understanding of each individual pet’s needs. Having a veterinarian come to you also decreases travel, waiting time and risk for disease transmission.

Yes, the house call fee (travel fee) starts at $150 for homes in and around Richmond.
We will bring all equipment and supplies directly to you. Your pet’s exam takes place all within the comfort of their own homes. Our goal is to provide consistent, convenient and comprehensive care in a safe, low-stress environment.
Mobile vet service costs more because it takes a lot more time. Consider a doctor has a vehicle, drive time back-and-forth, fuel, traffic, extended availability, short notice, long hours, 7-days a week, and large service areas. A vet clinic does not provide this level of service.
New Client/Patient appointments require a $150 online deposit fee. While we happily accept new patients to the House Call Vet RVA family, there are some situations when we are unable to accommodate a request for an appointment. In these rare instances, your deposit fee will be refunded in full.
If your pet is experiencing an emergency or needs to be seen right away, please contact a 24/7 veterinary emergency center immediately.
We offer non-emergent sick pet exams, based on availability & our capability to provide the best care and recommendations for your pet.
Your pet’s examination will include a total physical exam, with a thorough investigation of your pet’s head, body and tail, and all his assorted cavities. The duration of each appointment varies depending on the appointment type, diagnostics indicated and your pet’s specific needs. Dr. Hemsley thoroughly evaluates each of her patients. If your pet requires additional testing and/or treatments outside the abilities of a House Call practice, Dr. Hemsley will provide information on local veterinary facilities that are equipped to handle ongoing care. Additionally, your pet’s records will be promptly provided for you as well as emailed to the referral veterinary hospital.

Payment plans are accepted through Care Credit.
Payment is due at the time of services.
If you pet has Pet Insurance, we will work with your insurance provider to ensure they have information needed for your claim.
