Throughout this global pandemic, House Call Vet RVA has continued to provide an essential service for pets & pet parents requesting in-home veterinary care. In order to continue to do so, we have adopted the following policies and protocols.

  • As of 11/19/2020, ALL communication must be done through our WEBSITE. Please visit our commonly used forms page to fill out and submit the appropriate form.
  • If you are unsure of which form to choose, please visit our contact page to submit your request or question.
  • Appointment requests, questions, and all other communications will not be answered through email or phone calls.
  • However, requests submitted through the website will be answered in a timely manner. This is a CRITICAL and necessary change in order for us to continue to provide in-home veterinary care.

Deciding it is time to have your dog ‘cross the bridge’ is such a difficult decision. I can’t imagine having anyone other than Dr. Hemsley help me thru this process. She has a gift to put you immediately at ease. She is compassionate, and caring, knew just what to say and when to say it, and provided such dignity for those last moments. Her “bedside” manner was impeccable. The community is so very fortunate to have someone like Dr. Hemsley supporting pet owners.

Dr. Hemsley was absolutely phenomenal. Not only was she thorough in detail and empathetic, she brought actual peace to our home during the most difficult decision our young family has made. Our dog, Erin, was preeeety wary of vets (innate sense, I don’t know), but even she was at peace with Dr. Hemsley. The process was peaceful, loving, and quick. The dignity and grace that Dr. Hemsley was able to provide to our baby in her final moments is something I will never forget and will never take for granted. Deciding to have home euthanasia was the only option we could do to provide our pet and our family the most special, compassionate, loving, and intimate experience. The passing of a much-loved pet is an emotional time for a family, and the home euthanasia provided us our last loving moments with our pet. Dr Hemsley came to our home and saw ALL four of our animals in one visit… this was a major relief because we had, an outdoor cat, 70 lb dog, escape artist cat, and a special needs cat who sounds like he is getting an exorcism when in the car. Plus I had a newborn baby at the time. There was NO way I could have gotten them all in a car to drive to a vet office! She handled all of our animals with love and care and even our outdoor cat got his shots!

Driving an eighteen wheeler and having fur babies with me can be hard sometimes. Especially when an emergency situation comes up. My fur baby of 16 years had cancer and our regular vet had been keeping a check on it every couple of weeks when we were home. We had the surgery to remove it and unfortunately it grew back. After our last check up; went back to work in the last 3 days the cancer grew so much and her health declined so I fast,I called house call and she came out to meet us. She was kind and helpful. I really appreciated her making time for us when it was needed the most.

I cant speak highly enough about my experience with Dr. Hemsley with House Call Vet RVA! My family and I had to say goodbye to my favorite little man Max-a-million this week after 16 years with him 😭😭😭. He had been suffering from an older back injury and health complications from dog diabetes, and we noticed his health was quickly declining over the past couple weeks. I felt so overwhelmed and had no idea how to handle everything that was going on with him.

I called Dr. Hemsley on Sunday morning because little Max could barely move and appeared to be in so much pain. She was at our home just a couple hours later and did a quality of life consultation with my family and me. I was blown away by her professionalism and the genuine care she showed towards my family during this difficult decision. Dr. Hemsley was incredibly knowledgeable, she helped us understand what Max was experiencing, and her objective yet compassionate guidance through this difficult time. With Dr. Hemsley’s guidance, my family and I felt comfort in saying goodbye to our sweet Max.

I cant thank Dr. Hemsley enough for the support she showed my family and Max during his last few minutes while we said goodbye. She was patient with Max and waited until he was completely relaxed and comfortable before taking his trip to heaven.

I could never imagine putting him through the anxiety and stress of going to a vets office to be put down. His last moments were beautiful and peaceful, surrounded with loved ones on his favorite spot on the couch. Dr. Hemsley, I cant thank you enough for helping our family and Max-a-million through this heart crushing experience… Max is family and I am so relieved that you helped him go in a painless and stress free way.
